Message from the DirectorWelcome to The BioTrek Society website. The BioTrek Society is the first and only biotechnology-related out-of-class opportunity for students thus far in the Durham District School Board. The primary objective of the society is to foster basic scientific discovery and innovation through the promotion of biotechnology. High school students interested in the field of biotechnology will plan, execute, optimize, interpret, and document results and their potential implications to society through laboratory investigations. Members of The BioTrek Society are encouraged to share their results with other peers, and to publish their findings in various student scientific journals. In addition, The BioTrek Society will also provide to its members the opportunity to network with various scientists, collaborate with industry, and participate in conferences and competitions. The BioTrek Society usually meets at least twice a month, all throughout the year. Members are given a research project by December. However, if a member wishes to undertake a different research project than the ones posted in this website, a written research proposal will be accepted by the director, and evaluated for its feasibility. Moreover, members are promoted to certain position(s) within the society, and are granted certain title(s) which are reflected in a certificate given at the end of an academic year. Interested and committed individuals are invited to apply for membership.
